Off Grid Living Ideas

Off Grid Solar Heating

Use solar heating systems to heat all your water in order to save money. Using electricity or gas to heat water is not terribly efficient, but water heaters that use solar power maintain water temperatures using only the sun's rays by way of solar panels. While some upgrades cost more initially, they can qualify you for deductions on your tax return for using green energy.

Off Grid Solar Panels

Solar panels are easy to install and are great for off grid solar energy. There are some things that should be further looked in to before doing this. The most important thing you need to consider is the amount of sun your home gets regularly. If you home is under a lot of shade, or in an area where you do not have a lot of sunny days, the power gained from your solar unit will not be very significant.

Make sure that the batteries to store the power are placed as close as possible to the cells when installing your solar energy system. Power can be lost over long cables so this will lessen the impact. This can reduce chances of cables shading cells and reducing capabilities.

Off Grid Wind Turbine

Do you live on a farm? Farms are the perfect place to put a wind turbine. If you don't have a farm, you might be able to rent from someone. You and the neighbours can benefit from this free installation and energy which won't take up much space.

Install A Storm Door

Help to control the air flow in your own home by installing a storm door and storm windows too. This is because they decrease the amount of cold air circulating through your home. Energy efficiency can be increased up to 45% in a home with storm windows and doors.
